Show-Me Opera: The Pirates of Penzance
Sunday, March 15, 2020

A musical tale of romance, humor, and beautifully tongue-twisting lyrics, The Pirates of Penzance is one of the most popular of Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic operettas, full of memorable melodies you will be humming all the way home. Frederic is due to be released from his apprenticeship to a band of pirates on his 21st birthday and is ready to enjoy his first day as an independent man. He encounters a bevy of young girls and instantly falls in love. Born on February 29, he discovers that technically he must serve the pirates for another 63 years! Will he fulfill his duty to the pirates, or will he leave the pirates for love? Jam-packed with sentimental pirates, a bumbling band of policemen, and a completely dotty Major General, what could possibly go wrong?
